As we all know, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, residents have been able to attend and participate in the public meetings of the West Essex Board of Education (grades 7-12), which have been virtual for several months. This has encouraged greater transparency and public participation in the board meetings. This is a good thing that should be encouraged by all residents of all view points.
Unfortunately, the West Essex Board of Education now plans to return to live in-person only meetings, commencing with their October 5, 2020 meeting. There is no technological or practical reason that the board cannot conduct a live meeting with virtual attendance and participation.
